Euro 2008 Kits

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Site News

For many teams across Europe, the second biggest tournament to qualify and win would be the Euro. Behind the World Cup, of course. So it is a big time for all teams across the continent to unveil kits that will be worn for this event only, or for a couple years following. Though some of the kits have not changed since the 2006 World Cup, there are some that have, so I have created a collection of the kits here.

However if you want a brief synopsis of the teams kits, here you go.

Austria
The home kit is a traditional red with nothing more than the Puma logos and the Austria badge. No more, no less. Simple and elegant.

The away kit is a solid black new design from Puma that has the national colors on the front of the collar that really adds a nice touch.

Croatia
The Croatian home kit is that of traditional red and white checkers. Traditional and simple, no need to veer too much from what works.

The away kit they will wear during the Euro 2008 is a nice blue with the checkers down the sides. The nice touch is the red collar that looks great with the red in the checkers.

Czech Republic
The same kit that Czech Republic will wear for the home matches Euro 2008 is same as the one they wore for the 2006 World Cup, or at least I have not seen the newest home kit. If this is the kit they wear for the Euro it is a nice one. Solid field of red with the lion from the crest in the background.

The away kit is one of the newer ones from Puma and is by far the nicer of the two kits the Czech Republic have. Solid white with touches of red on the sleeves. It’s sharp and simple with a retro look with the collar.

France
France did not change their kit too much from the World Cup 2006, but with this new special edition Euro 2008 kit there are some modest changes. The biggest of course is the redesign of the logo to a more modern look. I like the changes, but not a huge fan of the collar.

Germany
Germany unveiled their new kit for the Euro 2008 and it has a feel of the 1980’s. I do not like the design across the front with the national colors going into the national badge. Aside from that the kit is what you would expect for one of the worlds top teams.

Greece
For years I have been a fan of the white kit with blue thoughout and nothing more. Thus the new kit for Greece is one of my personal favorites. It’s hard to go wrong with the color scheme and simplicity along with that. Nothing more than the three stripes down the sleeves and the national badge.

Holland
Holland released their new away kit with a unique color scheme that had little to do with the national colors. However I later found out that the light blue is the color of the royal family and the red, white and blue stripes are the actual colors of the nation. I like seeing national team kits that focus on showing their pride for the country.

Italy
One of my personal favorites thus far with the new releases has to be Italy’s new away kit. Puma has done a wonderful job with all the new away kits, but Italy’s seems to be my favorite thus far. Solid field of white with gold trim and the national colors on the front of the collar make this kit a must for any Italy fan.

Poland
Like the Italians, Puma unveiled a new kit for Poland. This one is lacking some character and is nothing more than a red kit with a collar. I would have liked to see the national colors on the front of the collar like other teams. However that is not the case, so Poland received a new kit with no character.

Portugal
Nike and Portugal collaborated on a kit that I think does not do the country or players justice. This is not a kit that I would be proud to wear aside from the Portugal Badge on the left chest. The red, green and white color scheme does not gel together. It’s not the colors, but the way the colors are arranged. Nike missed out on this one.

Romania
Romania’s home kit is another that focuses on the national colors by utilizing the burnt yellow and red throughout the kit. Red stripes down the arms show the alliance to Adidas and the national pride well.

The away, also manufactured by Adidas, is a classic white with red and blue throughout. Both kits are extremely nice and well thoughtout. I will be looking for updates with better pictures as often as I can, but you can get the basics from the picture.

Russia
Russia made an impressive run to get into this tournament and the kits they will wear is just as impressive. The home kit is a basic white with blue touches around the collar and the sleeves. Nothing special, just a simple looking kit.

The away kit adds a nice touch of nationalism as it incorporates the Russian flag across the chest with red, white and blue stripes on a solid field of red. Nike did a great job with these kits, and I’m sure the Russian players will be just as proud on the pitch.

Spain
The new Spanish home kit that will be worn until 2009 is one of extreme elegance. Maybe it’s the traditional Spanish crest on the left chest. Maybe it’s the color scheme. Whatever the case, it is a great looking kit with red and the yellow highlighted througout, but not too much.

Sweden
Sweden has always had a yellow kit with blue highlights. So why change it now when something you have done for so long works so well? I don’t know, but thank goodness Umbro did not veer too far away from that. Solid yellow with blue touches around the collar and sleeves. Umbro has always made nice kits, and this is no exception to that assumption.

Switzerland
Though Puma did not put the national flag of Switzerland on the front of the collar like they have with other teams, I think they did a great job with the new Switzerland home kit. Adding the red on the bottom of the sleeves and down the sides really adds a nice touch. Make the collar red and you have a fantastic looking kit. One of the nicest I have seen in this tournament.

Turkey
With a new color scheme for the away kit, Turkey and Nike scored big time with the solid white. Nothing more than a white kit with a light blue collar and the Turkey National Flag, which makes it simple and classic. Great looking kit from Nike.

Switzerland 2007-09 Home Kit

Puma has become one of my favorite kit manufacturers with their newest design. When they unveiled the 2007-09 Switzerland Away kit, it was another one that looked great and had a simple yet retro design.

The away kit that the Swiss will wear is solid white with red markings throughout. In such places as the underarm of the sleeves, the collar and the logos (both Puma and Switzerland), it is just enough to make the slightest pieces stand out. The only thing that I would have wanted more on the kit would have been something on the front of the collar. With this kit Puma has put the national colors in this spot, but for Switzerland they left it blank. Just think that it would have added a nice touch and could have put this kit at a perfect 5 stars, but for now it is only 4 out of 5. Not too bad.

For those wondering about the home kit, it will be released next year and will continue to be the traditional red I’m sure, but check back in the near future for the unveiling.

Sweden 2007-08 Home Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Sweden

Umbro unveiled the home kit that Sweden will wear until next year earlier in the year. What I like is that Umbro can design a great looking kit without having all the bells and whistles that many think you must have for a great looking kit.

For Sweden, Umbro stuck with what has worked for years. A solid yellow kit with blue markings. Now I have always been partial to the Sweden kit, mainly because it looked like my high school kit, but never the less it is a great design. If you look at the picture below you can see a retro kit that available if you purchase a new kit through Subside Sports. There has not been much change over the years for the Sweden home kit, and I like it like that. The retro look is coming back and looks great. I give this a 4 out of 5 stars as it is a great looking kit without the bells and whistles.

Spain 2007-09 Home Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Spain

Spain recently released the home kit they will wear for the Euro 2008 tournament and home matches until 2009. Fans, no need to worry about the away kit, it is set to be updated and unveiled next year. So check back here for the latest Spain away kit in the near future.

On to the home kit, it is the traditional maroon that has become a standard for Spain and their home kits. What I really like about this kit is the simplicity and retro look the kit has. Manufacturer Adidas really stepped up and made a great looking kit by keeping it simple and only utilizing the Spanish Crest and the yellow stripes and piping down the sides. All in all a spectacular kit that deserves 4 out of 5 stars from me.

Russia 2007-08 Home and Away Kits

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Russia

Along with Romania, I had a hard time finding the kits for Russia. So I jumped back to the trusted Euro 2008 site and found the home and away kits. Click here to go to the Euro 2008 page for Russia and see the kits.

Russia made a stance for their position in the tournament, and I think Nike made a stance with the kits they provided. Simplicity is key, and when dealing with red, white and blue as your primary colors it is hard to mess that up. On the home kit, the Russian side will be wearing a solid white top with blue around the sleeves and collar. The blue is a nice touch as the shorts are solid blue as well. On the away kit it will be a red top with red, white and blue stripes across the middle. This kit is not my favorite by any means. I have never been a fan of the horizontal stripes in the middle of the kit. It just seems too out of place for me, however Nike does make it look decent. I’m giving these kits another 3 out of 5 stars. I like them, but they are not worthy of anything higher. We’ll see what Nike comes out with when they design the next set.

Romania 2007-08 Home and Away Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Romania

Searching for the Romania kits was a difficult task as no retailer that I could find carried the kit itself. However I have found pictures of the two kits. All be it small, you can still see the design of the kits. Click here to go to the Romania page of the Euro 2008 tournament for a picture of the kits.

What I do like about the kits are the incorporation of the national colors. The home kit features a burnt yellow base with red throughout the top and of course the 3 Adidas stripes in the same red. The away kit is set on a field of white with red and green markings throughout. Adidas did a nice job with the colors on the kits, and I think even if Romania does not play well, their country is well represented on the pitch by world class athletes and a great looking kit. I’m giving this one a 3 out of 5. Mainly because I can not see enough of it to really make a true judgement on it, but the kit design itself is a good one by Adidas.

Portugal 2007-09 Away Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Portugal

Portugal has been a steady power in football for a while now, and Nike has been summoned to create a kit that they will wear for the “away” matches for the Euro 2008. I do believe this is the same Away kit that they will continue to wear after the tournament, so let’s get to it.

Positioned on a solid field of white is the Portugal crest, nike logo, and…nothing. Now usually I would say that a clean kit is a great kit, but for some reason I do not like the design or flow of this particular top. Maybe it’s the green markings on the side with the red collar, I do not know for sure. But it does not seem like a world class clubs’ kit. For this I will have to give it a 3 out of 5 stars, it is simple and does not have a lot going on, but maybe it should have.

Poland 2007-09 Away Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Poland

Poland is one of those countries that takes a lot of pride in the football team, and expects success each time the team takes the pitch. Puma has the daunting task of making a kit that is synonomous of that pride. They pulled it off flawlessly.

Taking the traditional red from the Poland crest, and not adding anything else but white piping on the sleeves and the logos, Puma has made a fantastic looking kit. The only issue with the kit that I do not like is the Puma logo under the Poland crest. Giving the fact that they have two other logos on the shoulders, I think they could have not used this one and kept it a little cleaner on the front. All in all it is a nice kit, and Poland will look great on the pitch during the Euro 2008. Do not worry about the home kit, it is the traditional white and is expected to be redone and relased next year. I’ll keep you updated when that happens. For now though, the 2007-09 away kit gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Italy 2007-09 Away Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Italy

While looking through a publication a couple weeks ago, I came across the new Italy away kit by Puma. It does not happen very often, but I could not get over how great this particular kit looks. Aside from the traditonal blue home kit, which is set to be revamped and unveiled next year, Puma and Italian officials went with a white away kit.

On a solid field of white there is nothing more than the Italy badge and a few Puma logos. That is it in terms of marking on the kit itself, but there is the gold trim around the sleeves and collar that really bring out the Championship stars on the badge. Another nice touch to this kit is something that Puma has been doing with the most recent kits, and that is adding the national colors to a small spot on the front of the collar. Add that with a traditional collar and you have one of the nicest kits in the world. Italian fans should run out and get this kit, because it is not often that a kit can become a timeless piece of merchandise…such as this one is. 5 out of 5 stars from me…it is nothing short of perfection.

Holland 2007-09 Away Kit

Tagged: Euro 2008 - Holland

When one thinks of Holland on the pitch, the thoughts tend to veer toward a bright orange home kit that has become a staple of the Holland squad. Do not worry, that is still the standard home kit through this year and check back when Holland unveils their home kit for 2008. What many do not know is that, like everyone else, they have an Away kit that is another color.

The kit that Holland will wear for their away matches in the Euro 2008 and until the 2009 campaign will be a light blue wih the Dutch badge on the left chest. What makes this kit unique is the red, white and blue stripes that go across the kit. These are the same colors that are in the badge and also the same color blue that is on the Nike logo and the front of the collar. This is a nice kit, but I do not like the color choice. As a third kit that is worn on occassion maybe, but not as a permanent away kit. I am giving this kit 3 out of 5 stars because of the color and the stripes. It just does not flow well enough for my taste.
